It Ain't Too Late!
Register for the Sept. 15-19 conference in Venice/Sarasota if you want to join 110 and counting of your fellow communicators and sponsors. A number of members are attending who have never been to a FOWA conference or haven't gone in years. It's got it all: A fabulous fishing tournament, a kickoff dinner featuring a roast of Frank Sargeant, craft-improvement seminars including famed photographer Clyde Butcher, a tour of Mote Marine Laboratory (with dinner), a day of shooting sports and a Breakout session spotlighting new gear and promotions for '05, our gala Auction with keynote speaker Dr. Guy Harvey, the Excellence In Crafts banquet, and numerous activities such as a Skish (casting-accuracy) contest, the infamous FOWA Hospitality Suite most nights, and best of all: A chance to network with new and veteran FOWA members from around the state who will all be together under one roof.
Support the organization by attending the conference - the value you'll receive will far exceed the cost. If you simply cannot make it, you can still help by sending an item for the Auction. For more details, call or click and I'll email the conference itinerary and registration form.
This will be one of the best conferences ever held - I hope to see you there.

A Special Message from Charlotte Harbor & The Gulf Islands
Hurricane Charley may have hit the Charlotte County tourism industry hard on August 13th, but it can't keep us from coming back fast. We have a lot of cleaning up to do, but through a determined recovery effort, our industry will be stronger and healthier than ever.
The good news is that the speed of the storm resulted in no storm surge or flooding leaving major portions of Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands untouched and as beautiful as ever. Much of what has attracted visitors to our pristine, nature-based destination remains intact. Englewood, Cape Haze, Placida and Palm Island remain untouched, and all attractions, lodging facilities, tours and shops are open and ready to welcome visitors. Some of the area's lodging facilities are housing recovery personnel but will be looking for business once the crews have departed.
While historic downtown Punta Gorda did sustain significant damage, there are already positive signs of recovery. Restaurants, shops and galleries are working toward opening on a daily basis.
Lodging facilities in Punta Gorda suffered major losses but major hotel owners are optimistic for rebuilding quickly. While utility and recovery crews are being housed at many county lodging facilities, there are numerous rental homes in the Englewood area which are available for visitors. Call the Englewood Chamber at (941) 474-5511 for information from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
"The concern and outpouring of support which I have received from my colleagues in the tourism industry has been utterly amazing, and for that I am truly grateful," says Becky Bovell, Visitor's Bureau Director. "We have taken a strong left hook from Hurricane Charley but we are ready to turn the other cheek and step right back into the ring."
We encourage those who may be holding reservations here in the area for anytime in the near future to follow our progress, and be witness to an amazing recovery, by visiting our Web site, www.pureflorida.com , where we'll keep you updated on a regular basis.
FOWA wishes speedy recovery to Charlotte Harbor and all the areas hit hard by Hurricane Charley, including Polk County and Kissimmee-St. Cloud.

PLANTATION KEY, FL (August 15,2004) ----- Veteran Keys Captain and fishing guide, Randy Towe, decided there was no boat on the market that met his needs and expectations for offshore angling. All boats traditionally had a stern fishing cockpit, but no walk around ability that was convenient and safe for the angler utilizing a stand-up rod outfit or a fly rod. So he built one! The standard offshore boats cost well over a million dollars for a 42-foot sport fisherman and all have similar problems for the angler. "These boats are all a compromise," said Towe, "some fishing, some cruising, and some live-aboard; that's what has been out there until now." Towe's design patented boat prototype was built in the Keys and is all about what the Keys is known for besides lime pie; fishing! Towe narrowed down the concept of the perfect boat into a no-compromise fishing machine, but with all the luxuries built in as well. Towe has accomplished his dreamboat and it is available to all serious anglers as well. Of course for a 43-footer he did have and need the able assistance of two highly qualified craftsmen. After two years of very hard work, they helped put this craft in the water, but it was Towe's vision, determination and fortitude that made it happen, and of course some creative financing didn't hurt either.
Well, happen it has! This is a boat that should appeal to the light tackle or big tackle angler, and with the full 360 degree walk-around (the only true over 40 foot walk-around sport fisherman with no steps up or down) for well under a million bucks, and a large fish can be fought from any location on the boat or chased without backing down on it. In most situations, the boat can be put into neutral and the angler fights the fish, not the boat.
This is a boat you can fish locally or long distance with all the comforts you'd expect from a high quality sport fisherman.
NewsDrive from Mike Walker
Good evening. Sounds like Alfred Hitchcock's old TV show lead-in. But I probably date myself, so never mind. But please do mind on this request, as I'm offering a PR opportunity for any products you might have for consumers. Maybe an instructional video, maybe a book, maybe....well, who knows, it's up to you. Here's the deal:
After you read my request, log on to http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/otb/news.asp
This is a new service called NewsDrive. It's the brainchild of Larry and Brit Thompson, who have www.fishingworld.com as their primary outdoor venture. The page you see is a work-up and we are doing some final tweaking before we turn it on for the public to see it.
Larry and Brit are pretty savvy and see new ways to bring outdoor news to enthusiasts and in this case NewsDrive is the new service. It's an exclusive service for Yamaha's boat and outboard dealers. Dealers who want to add daily variety to their own dealership web sites, can do so with NewsDrive. In addition, they will be offering a similar service to other entities, but all under the name of NewsDrive.
And you can benefit from it. I'm not soliciting articles to buy. Not at all, so don't even ask or pitch. What I am doing is letting you know that if you have a video, book, artwork, seminar available to the public, then let me know about it and I'm not making any promises, but if it's right for the site, we'll run a brief feature and photo of it. You provide the text, which should be no more than 200 words and a low-res image of your product, which would be a JPEG format color image 72 dpi.
If your product is a book or video/film, please write a review of it. . If it's something else, just provide a press release on it, about the same length. Don't treat it like ad copy, treat it like a review or feature you would write for the media. We will include price and how someone might reach you for a purchase.
We're going to make this service available to interested outdoor, fishing, boating, even hunting writers for 90 days. If it is well received, we'll keep the offer going. If not, then it dies a quick death.
Tens of thousands log onto the Yamaha web site for product and tournament news already. We even have a subscriber list of over 67,000 opt-in emails we send fishing and boating tips to. The exposure you receive just on the Yamaha site along will be significant and as dealers sign on (they're just now learning about it) to have NewsDrive features available on their web sites, the number really goes through the roof.
As always, we reserve the right to edit for content, length and appropriate taste and reserve the right not to run anything deemed detrimental to Yamaha and its dealers.
Please add me to your email list if you promote by email, but don't send large attachments. This is a free service from Yamaha for you. Please take advantage of it.
