Pacific Coast Sportfishing Pacific Coast Sportfishing magazine invites writers to submit ideas for feature stories. Send a brief synopsis (50-100 words) or a couple of paragraphs from your piece. We cover exclusively saltwater sport angling in the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez and want stories that appeal to both novice and experienced anglers, particularly stories that describe intermediate to advanced techniques and concepts. Features are 1,900 to 2,500 words; pay is $400. Mini-features are 1,500 to 1,900 words; pay is $300. All manuscripts should be accompanied by quality photos. We will award an additional $200 each issue to the feature story with the best photography to compliment the copy. Unsolicited manuscripts may be submitted either electronically or in print. Southern Boating Independent, super-regional boating and travel magazine needs a seasoned editor for a full-time position in Florida. Candidates must be equally skilled at news and feature writing and copy editing/ rewriting as well as demonstrate production experience at a newspaper or magazine. Experience writing about nautical and marine trades subjects a plus, but significant boating experience could be substituted for the right candidate with technical and/or feature-writing background. The ability to interview sources professionally, write authoritatively and quickly, think clearly, work independently, generate story ideas, source art, and keep many projects moving forward simultaneously is as essential as a passion for boating and water sports. Media Invited to Experience ‘Natural Clearwater Outdoors’

Travel media interested in experiencing natural Clearwater outdoors are invited to participate in a four-night familiarization trip from Tuesday, April 29 through Saturday, May 3, 2008. The focus of the trip is to introduce to a larger audience the broad array of outdoor recreational nature activities and soft adventure experiences available throughout the greater Clearwater area.
According to Ebe Bower, Vice President of Tourism for the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, and host on behalf of the city of Clearwater, the trip is an opportunity to continue to promote the area as an ideal destination for travelers seeking soft outdoor adventure, educational and family travel experiences.
'Over the past year we've promoted the assets of 'natural Clearwater,' says Bower. 'Because of the tremendous response we've received and the growing popularity of nature-based tourism, we're excited to continue showcasing what makes Clearwater one of the most popular travel destinations in the world.'
Along with receptions, presentations and other activities, the trip's itinerary will include a four-hour kayak trip throughout Caladesi Island State Park; a three-hour sail experience with Clearwater Community Sailing Center instructors; a two-hour guided hike along Honeymoon Island's Osprey Trail; a 'Marine Life Adventure' with Clearwater Marine Aquarium biologists and a 'Sunset and Stargazing Beach Walk' with a local naturalist.
The schedule will also include a presentation on Beach Walk, the city of Clearwater's $30 million beach promenade beautification project, and may allow free time for other activities.
Conditions and Requirements
For qualified media, the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce will provide round-trip air transportation (from a North American airport served by major carriers) to and from Tampa International Airport or St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport, ground transportation, accommodations (at the newly opened luxury Sandpearl Resort, a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts), meals and passes to activities. Not included are connecting flights to and from airports not served by major carriers, personal amenities, souvenirs, and tips and gratuities.
Space is reserved for a maximum of six journalists on assignment. Spouses, partners, children or guests cannot be accommodated. Participants should be in good physical condition, and will be expected to take part in the activities planned for the trip. Kayaking and sailing experience is not required, as instruction will be provided.
Interested media who would like to be considered for this trip must submit their name and credentials to Ebe Bower via e-mail (EBower@ClearwaterFlorida.org) no later than Tuesday, March 25, 2008. For freelance journalists, a letter of assignment is required. Selected participants will be notified by March 28. Media who work for organizations that do not accept paid press trips, but are permitted to pay media rates, should also consider participating in the trip.
