Bird Hunting Report

In its 18th year of publication, the Bird Hunting Report newsletter speaks to traveling wing shooters who want the facts on quality places to hunt. Sought for publication are experienced-based, fact- checked reports that make educated value judgments and recommendations about available worldwide hunting opportunities: on both public and private lands, in lodges and clubs or “do-it- yourself.” This is a great secondary market for information you’ve gathered for other stories. Payment is 16 cents per word for an 800-1,000-word report. No photo support is required. Direct additional questions, queries and requests for style sheets to Managing Editor Tom Carney, tom@birdhuntingreport.com.

Bird Watcher’s Digest

Bird Watcher’s Digest (BWD) is a bimonthly magazine devoted to providing entertaining, informative and engaging content to its readers and subscribers. Each issue of BWD comprises a wide array of material aimed at bird watchers and birders at all levels of interest and ability. BWD always seeks well-written accounts covering backyard birds, including feeding, housing, bird gardening, how-to projects and interesting bird behavior and experiences. Submissions from freelance authors are welcomed. Acceptance is never based on a query alone; entire manuscripts are preferred. Rights purchased and pay vary. Contact Deborah Griffith, managing editor, P.O. Box 110, Marietta, OH 45750, 740-373-5285, submissions@birdwatchersdigest.com.

Destination Fish is a high- quality, quarterly publication that includes features and departments of interest to anglers who enjoy traveling to great destinations where family members can appreciate the ambiance and culture as well.

Although readership is mostly U.S. anglers with the wherewithal to travel, the publication does not cover destinations in the continental United States. Saltwater and freshwater settings are of interest with no limitation on the fishing style. The publication’s emphasis is as much about what to do at each location as the fishing itself. If you’ve visited or plan to visit fishing destinations in Russia, Europe or Africa, query and request editorial guidelines from Editor in Chief Doug Kelly at doug@destinationfish.travel. At this time the editors do not seek queries for North, Central or South America.

Fly Rod & Reel

Fly Rod & Reel deals in aspirations, inspirations and instruction.

If your manuscript is already complete, feel free to submit it. All editorial submissions are acknowledged upon receipt. For a feature of 2,500 words, accompanied by a selection of photos or illustrations, payment averages $450. Fees for longer or shorter material may be adjusted. Payment is upon acceptance, and one- time rights are generally bought. Type and double-space manuscripts, with name and story title on each page. If submitting floppy disks, Microsoft Word is preferred. Send queries and manuscripts to Fly Rod & Reel, P.O. Box 370, Camden, ME 04843. E-mail editors@flyrodreel.com.

CORPORATE CORNER

 From Steve Kearl:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has been working with a group of stakeholders representing commercial and recreational fishing, research and environmental interests to develop a draft vision document regarding the future management and protection of Florida’s marine fisheries resources. Florida is widely recognized as the “Fishing Capital of the World,” and we initiated this important process to help ensure that Florida maintains its abundant fisheries for many years to come.

We are now inviting you to comment on the draft stakeholder document, which includes a vision statement and five focus areas relating to marine habitat enhancement and protection, ecosystem management, research coordination, interagency coordination, and funding and staffing needs. You can do so by attending a public workshop or statewide video conference that has been scheduled over the next several weeks, or by commenting to us online. The draft vision document, a news release announcing meeting times and locations, the online link, and other related information is available at http:// myfwc.com/marine/workgroups/futureoffishinginfl.html.

We look forward to receiving your valuable input regarding the future of saltwater fishing in Florida, and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate in this process.
